When I came back continue modelling in Maya, I discovered lots of random vertices dotted left, right and centre. I tried deleting the extra vertices but kept on destroying the model This was due to the subdivisions on the multi-cut tool. So I started recreating the lift model from scratch.

My friend showed me a lot of tips and tricks in Maya which help me make the model quicker and helped me get my vision of the model in Maya. I used real life references from the elevators at Weston College.

When I starting adding materials into Unreal tried adding mirrors into the lift but I was unable to add reflections onto the material. I could have used planar reflections to add reflections but it would have been very computer intensive and I don't want to increase the requirements for the game.

I tried adding call buttons to the lift. So if the player is on the second floor and the lift is on the ground floor, the player can call the lift and the lift will rise to the called floor. I had a lot of difficult trying to add them. I was trying to get the lift rise or lower in one go instead of make the lift go up of down every floor until it finds the right floor.

Outside of work I continued the door tutorial by Ryan Laley to complete the doors for use in the lift.
