Work Experience Journal - Day 24

After trying a couple times to try to follow the Unreal tutorial, I realised that enough is enough. I've have wasted too much time working on this now it is time to start a fresh and follow a different tutorial. I found a another tutorial by Epic Games and followed that. It was aimed more towards beginners and came in two parts. The first part was creating a height map and the second half was more focused on modifying the height map to act like water but after I had finished the height map I a strange problem occurred. Instead of raising part of the plane it was rising the entire thing. For the life of me, I couldn't figure it out why it wasn't working. So I turned my attention onto different mechanic to try and get a new perspective on the issue.

I tried to add a vision mode which allows the player to see actors and objects through wall. Unfortunately enough it failed to work. Instead of allowing the selected actor through walls, it covered the whole level in a colour and only the selected actor would appear unaffected. I tried researching dynamic material instances to see if that was the problem but it was still unable to work. After many tries once again, I can only speculate that the issues arrive from incomparable issues as he is running unreal from the 30th of January 2017.

The undesired effect

Now that I have experienced this setback, I know a lot more about the uses and ability of dynamic materiel instances which allow me to change materials and setting on the fly.

When I got home I tried following the height map tutorial again but in version 4.21 and it wasn't functioning as expected.
